It’s common knowledge that one of the main factors leading to heart problems is obesity. But did you know that low fat deposits of MCT allow for good cardiovascular health?
Studies have shown that MCTs, or Medium Chain Triglycerides, help keep the heart healthy by increasing HDL (good cholesterol) and regulating LDL (bad cholesterol) to lessen plaque build-up.
Unlike most fats, MCTs do not increase blood clotting, thus, reducing heart disease and the risk of stroke.
MCTs are quickly absorbed and metabolized into energy by the liver, making them less likely to contribute to fat accumulation than long chain fatty acids. They are also known to increase HDL (good cholesterol) and regulate LDL (bad cholesterol) to lessen plaque build-up, thus lowering blood pressure.
It has also been found that people who regularly consume coconut oil have a lower incidence of heart attack (and even diabetes) compared to those who do not consume coconut oil regularly, an effect attributed to the MCT in the coconut.
